Workers at a Fort
Wayne, Indiana, car wash had a cute surprise while they worked to clean up a car
after a bird got stuck in its front grille.
Employees at Mike’s Car
Wash requested help from nearby Jiffy Lube after they discovered a groundhog
inside the car’s front bumper.
“It was definitely an
odd day at work,” said JL Manager Dalton Brenneke.
The workers had to
remove the animal that was still alive but stuck inside the front bumper of the
car.
“The last thing I
expected was to be pulling apart a front bumper to remove a groundhog,” he
said.
Following the
discovery, Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control was also called to help remove
the animal to safety.
The rescue mission got
more difficult when the startled groundhog began moving around. The workers had
to remove the front bumper and the rear left tire before they could reach the
animal.
“He was cute but
definitely mad that we were trying to take him from his warm home,” Brenneke
joked.
“We took off the front
skid plate to give him room but then he ran to the back of the car before we
finally got him out.”
The car owner was not
charged with any fees for the services but she paid $500 to repair wiring that
the groundhog had chewed and damaged.
Brenneke said the groundhog was named Mike. It was later
handed over to an officer.
